Ebook About The fifth book in the USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling Carly Moore series. It’s been a week since Carly Moore’s friend Jerry was run off the road and killed, and the sheriff’s department has already struck out on leads. She’s not about to sit back and let it go, but the last thing she wants is to endanger anyone else. Besides, as she learned long ago, problems come in threes.A mysterious woman causes a ruckus in the tavern where Carly works and leaves behind a note: We’ve got some unfinished business, Carly Moore. I’ll be in touch. The stranger looks like trouble, and Carly knows it means nothing good. Then, on the heels of that encounter, she gets shocking news: the crime syndicate her father co-ran has been taken down by the authorities. She’s not foolish enough to think her father has been neutralized, but she realizes she needs to act against him soon if she wants to stop hiding. The deeper Carly digs into her family’s past, the more dirt she finds. But lies are told for a reason, and there are people around her who are willing to kill to keep the truth hidden.Book The Lies She Told: Carly Moore #5 Review :
I just finished the book and my head is reeling from it! I usually take time after I read a book to process it for a bit before I review it. Not this time. My adrenaline spiked and my brain was working overtime during this installment of Carly's quest to take down the a-holes in her life. There are so many secrets that try to come to light in this book but the shadows like to cling on and they are hard to shake off. Sometimes it seems as though for every question that gets partially answered, 5 more questions or problems come up. All I've got to say is I can't wait to see what happens next. There are some burning questions that I need answers to. I'm sure they are bound to be doozies.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. **Some spoilers- you've been warned!!**I had to take a few day's to sort my thoughts out on this because by the end of the book I was conflicted on my feelings. I really like Carly but I'm having issues with her behavior in this book lol yes, she's evolving and growing, working through her issues etc. However, I have a real dislike to her OTT reactions she has through some of this book. For one, her reaction to Hank asking her to move out temporarily. I feel she was completely irrational and even though she admits this later, it just feels TOO dramatic and childish considering her situation and knowing that Hank wouldn't do anything unless it was necessary for HER benefit. Like she said, if she can't trust him of all people, she can't trust anyone but the moment he asks her to trust him she throws a tantrum. It was unnecessary "drama" thrown in, IMO.She also has gone out of her way to be as careless and indiscreet as possible in her "sleuthin' " and her contradictory behavior of staying under the radar which I'm trying to wrap my brain around it because she says one thing but forgoes all caution the next sentence. Her actions throughout this book felt like constant whiplash. Her mouthing off to Bingham became a constant eye roll for me. I can't understand why she's "terrified " of him but in the next breath she's again, OTT in her reaction to him when from what I've gathered from book 1 to now, he's not ever really done anything to her to cause this fear or animosity towards him. If anything, he's kept his word to her and has actually worked with her civilly. Again, unnecessary drama thrown in. IMO. Carly spends 80% of the book with tears in her eyes. Again, quite OTT and too dramatic. This book, surprisingly, had a lot of typos and sentences that didn't flow or make sense. Not the standard I'm accustomed to from DGS and was shocked her editing team missed them. There was quite a lot of rehashing thing's over and over again that to me, equate to filler/fluff being added to meet word count. I have seen this on quite a few books now and wish that Ms. Swank and or her team, would please stop doing this because it's tedious to see continually and only end up skimming through pages that I've already read before one time too many. As a consumer and supporter, I want a FULL book filled with NEW thing's, not constant repetition. I hope the remainder of the series is completed to the standards I've come accustomed to from Ms. Swank because I do enjoy her work, but lately it hasn't been her best.
