I typically like Barbara Delinsky's books, but perhaps because it was one of her earlier works, thought Three Wishes was lacking in several areas. The premise was a good one gone dark, and the execution and pacing didn't seem as organized as some of her others. The writing was corny at times, some major events seemed glossed-over, others were emphasized in too much detail (not a prude but the ongoing sex was pretty graphic), and aside from the fact that I personally hated the ending, it didn't add up with the rest of the book. Some of the character descriptions were good, and the book's beginning, while clearly not leading into an important work, was fairly strong and engaging...another reason the middle seemed a little lackluster and final chapter seemed so bad. The story wants so much to be uplifting, but ends up just the opposite. Overall, a disappointment. A definite turn from the rest of the upbeat Delinsky books I've filled my summer days with. I couldn't believe the twist the final chapters took and those have left me stunned and saddened. Still crying when I think about it. I only wanted one wish and that would have been for the story to have ended differently!
